What is SCVBA?

The St. Croix Valley Baseball Association (SCVBA) is a non-profit organization incorporated in the fall of 2003 as an initiative to focus and maximize the baseball resources in the St. Croix Valley.

SCVBA is a competitive traveling baseball association and is the only local association using outside evaluators as a cornerstone of its tryout process. SCVBA has experienced rapid growth in recent years. Last year, SCVBA fielded 19 teams in the 10 - 15 year old age groups. All our teams played in the Metro Baseball League providing Saint Croix Valley and Stillwater kids the most competitive and best challenges. The ultimate goal of SCVBA is to field well-balanced teams playing at each player’s ability.

The mission for SCVBA is to promote and to develop the growth of quality amateur baseball in the St. Croix Valley and Stillwater area. The organization promotes the principles of sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, and respect for others.

Workouts Before Tryouts

For the 2015 season we are going try something new to help get the players ready for tryouts. Instead of the warm-ups at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center that we have traditionally done, we have worked out a deal with PHD Baseball, formerly SKILLS, in Lake Elmo to rent batting cages.

We will be scheduling age group workouts in the cages for the players to get some swings in. Until the teams are formed, these workouts will not be coached but will open time for the players to get some swings in before tryouts. We will encourage tee work and underhand toss (like what they will see during tryouts). More information will be posted soon.

Registration/Tryout and Team fees will need to be collected prior to using the cages.

The workouts in the cages at Skills/PHD in Lake Elmo are being offered in a trial basis. There is no guarantee that these will be offered in the same way again next year. We plan to evaluate the success of the program to determine the value to participating players.

Volunteering

St. Croix Valley Baseball Association is a volunteer association. We rely heavily volunteers to coach, help us with tournaments (field prep, concessions, etc.), field repairs and improvements, and other tasks. Because of this we are counting on at least 10 hours of volunteer time per family of each athlete. Please be prepared to help us continue to be able to offer our players the best experience possible.

Payments

Payments need to be received prior to the player participating in any SCVBA event including workouts in the batting cages or tryouts at Concordia.

We will have two methods of paying the fees this year.

  1. Pay via Credit Card - Fees can be paid using your credit card when you register. You will be responsible for any additional credit card processing fees in addition to the registration/Tryout Fees and Team Fees.
  2. Pay via Check - Two separate checks can be brought to the workouts in the cages or to the tryouts, one for tryouts (see table above) and one for team fees (see table above) made payable to SCVBA.

Once tryouts begin, no refunds will be made except to participants who are cut.  The SCVBA Board gives individual consideration to injured players unable to participate in tryouts.

Age Group

Players generally play at their age on April 30th but players can tryout for an older age group. We encourage players to play with their grade. For example, all 5th graders will normally play 11U baseball.

Uniform Ordering Policy

BEFORE registering your athlete and placing an order for a uniform, please insure the uniform you order is the proper size.  Once the Order is placed, we will not be able to return your uniform for a different size. It is not always possible to even order a different uniform, or insure it would arrive for games.  If a different uniform can be ordered for you, it will be at your own expense.

Uniform samples are available at Heritage.
